Endurance Sport, Central Otago Athletes compete in 11 stages over 3 days, covering 376 km making Goldrush one of the longest and toughest multi-sport events in NZ. The event started in 1997 and is a well organised event, characterised by the high quality of marshals, timekeepers and many helpers. The course starts in the heart of Alexandra at Pioneer Park with a short run taking the competitors to their kayaks lined up along the banks of the Clutha River. |

The Goldrush Difference The two overnight camps are what makes Goldrush unique, with a chance to rest up, swap stories and spin a few yarns with fellow competitors. Central Otago Outback Central Otago has long held a sense of mystique, with its rugged rocky landscape, the majestic Clutha River winding its way through the quiet valleys and the trails which crisscross the hills. When you compete in Goldrush, you can imagine the struggles that the early settlers had in setting up the many water races for sluicing the gold and roads to access their claims. On the second day you will run through two old rail tunnels that are pitch black and some say are haunted! Entries will open on the 1st November 2011 at 9.00am on the Goldrush website. |
