The South Island's largest road cycling event attracts riders from around New Zealand & worldwide. The Grape Ride traverses a 101km circuit through the heart of Marlborough's wine country and the breathtaking beauty of the Marlborough Sounds.

A must do on the New Zealand and world road cycling calendar, this cycling event offers competitors a standard course of 101km or a shorter, taster course of 42km. Ultra endurance riders have the option to take on the challenge of either 202km or 505km and there are categories for relay teams, tandems, speed bunnies, paracyclists and more.

From the Forrest Estate Winery, Renwick, it's a flat route to Blenheim. Riders then head north & gently climb into Picton. The route then follows the picturesque Queen Charlotte Drive around the head of Queen Charlotte & Pelorus Sounds, Ngakuta & Momorangi Bays, The Grove, Linkwater & the mussel capital, Havelock. Heading out onto SH6 & homeward bound to Renwick.

At the end of this epic ride cyclists and their friends join celebrity guests at the after-event party with its unique wine theme. 100 female riders known as "The 100 Grape Crushing Virgins"are chosen from the field to crush 3 tonne of pinot noir grapes in a purpose built vat into an exclusive Forrest Estate vintage for the next years event. All returning riders receive a complimentary bottle of the '100 Virgins Pinot Noir' in their race pack.

Known for it's sunny, dry climate, the picturesque Marlborough Sounds and world class wines, the Marlborough region is located in the north eastern corner of the South Island. Picton, the gateway to Marlborough, is a scenic ferry ride from Wellington.
