Bay of Islands Sailing Week 17-20 January 2012 Yacht Racing Regatta

For three days Opua Wharf, Bay of Islands is the venue for the Bay of Islands Sailing Week hosting local and visiting fleets of competing boats. "The Bay" location offers yachties the opportunity to race in some of the best sailing waters & conditions in New Zealand with a good chance of fine weather and good winds.

The regatta is run by yachties for yachties and the social side is as important as the racing with plenty of exciting social events in the North Sails Tent.
Bay of Islands Sailing Week 17-20 January 2012 Race Information

Registration & a compulsory race briefing is held on Opua Wharf on the first day of the event. This is followed by 3 days of racing in four separate race areas - an in-shore course for sports boats & open keel boats; two outer courses for keelers & trailer sailers and Bay courses. The racing is a combination of windward/leeward and Bay races.

The Bay of Islands Sailing Week is held in the third week of January. It is followed by the Auckland Anniversary Weekend Regatta a week later, and Sail Auckland in early February. Auckland is an easy 120 mile coastal cruise south with several picturesque bays and harbours to enjoy along the way.

The regatta is run from Opua which is the major port for cruising boats clearing into NZ. It handles more than 80% of all arrivals at the major new marina which can accommodate 235 boats. The Bay of Islands is one of New Zealand's most popular tourist destinations, renowned for its scenic beauty, subtropical climate, big game fishing & boating. Take time out from the racing action to enjoy some of the many activities available in the area.
